Thomas G. Widman

Ohio native Thomas G. Widman has 15 years of experience in the practice of law. As a Columbus, Ohio divorce attorney and real estate lawyer, he brings a wealth of experience to the complexities that arise in these areas. Mr. Widman has worked with numerous clients including families, adults, juveniles, and corporations, while bringing a sense of confidence, security, and knowledge to each unique case.

As a domestic relations lawyer , Mr. Widman is available to help clients in the following areas: divorce, dissolution, legal separation, custody, child support, alimony, visitation, contempt, paternity, guardian ad litem, etc.

Attorney Widman has a wealth of experience representing minor children as counsel and guardian ad litem, in both Domestic Relations Court and Juvenile Court. In addition to being an advocate for the children of separating/divorcing parents, he has also represented babies and other children who have been severely injured as a result of abuse and neglect. Representing small children, who are unable to speak for themselves, is something that gives Attorney Widman particular satisfaction.

As a real estate attorney, Mr. Widman is able to assist with residential and commercial real estate sales. His representation can include assistance with the initial offer, preparing the purchase agreement, reviewing the title insurance and loan documents, attending the closing, reviewing surveys, restrictions and easements, etc.

He is a licensed title insurance agent and therefore can assist clients with all of their title insurance needs. He has a unique and extensive background in title examination which can become very helpful as clients attempt to determine the status of the title to their residential or commercial properties.

Attorney Widman can draft and/or review any real estate documents that might be needed, including deeds, leases, land contracts, mortgages, loan documents, escrow agreements, hold-harmless/indemnity agreements, condominium documents, association documents, restrictions, easements, etc.

Mr. Widman is available to assist title agents and title underwriters with the defense of title insurance claims. He has prosecuted thousands of residential foreclosure cases and hundreds of title claims, and is especially suited to defend title claims that have been submitted by insured lenders.

James ("J.") Ashton Carr II - Law Clerk

James ("J.") Ashton Carr II serves as Attorney Widman's law clerk.  Mr. Carr is a graduate of Grove City College in Grove City, Pennsylvania and a graduate of Duquesne University's School of Law in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.  Mr. Carr is a licensed attorney in the State of Pennsylvnaia, and plans to sit for the July 2008 Ohio Bar Examination.  In addition, Mr. Carr is a member of the Pennsylvania Bar Association and American Bar Association.

While attending law school, Mr. Carr served as a summer law clerk to the Honorable Arthur J. Schwab, Federal District Judge for the Western District of Pennsylvania. He was also employed as a summer associate at the law firm of MacDonald, Illig, Jones & Britton, L.L.P., in Erie, Pennsylvania.  During his thrid year of law school, Mr. Carr served as a Certified Legal Intern in Duquesne University's School of Law's Economic and Community Development Law Clinic.  In this capacity, Mr. Carr represented several local nonprofit, tax-exempt organizations.  He would incorporate these organizations, draft their bylaws, and apply for their tax-exempt status under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.  Mr. Carr also represented several  individuals on appeal who had applied for Unemployment Compensation Benefits and were denied such benefits.
